The Dawoodi Bohra community in Singapore marked the nation’s 60th National Day with a gathering at Burhani Masjid, bringing together members of the community, interfaith leaders, and guests from diverse backgrounds to celebrate unity, heritage, and national pride.
Guest of Honour Mr. Baey Yam Keng, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Transport, attended the event, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering multicultural harmony.
“Though small in number, the Dawoodi Bohra community has made meaningful contributions to our nation-building efforts,” Mr. Baey said, referring to the event on Facebook. “Through gatherings like this, they provide platforms for diverse communities to come together and celebrate our shared identity as a nation.”
The program began with the national anthem and a prayer for Singapore’s peace and prosperity, followed by a video presentation introducing the Dawoodi Bohra community’s contributions to Singaporean society. The presentation highlighted values of peaceful coexistence, education, enterprise, and civic engagement.
Attendees partook of traditional Bohra cuisine served in a communal dining style, a practice reflecting the community’s emphasis on togetherness, gratitude, and hospitality.
Representatives from the Inter-Religious Organisation, the Archdiocesan Catholic Council for Inter-religious Dialogue, the National Youth Council, the People’s Association, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, neighbours and local hospitality partners were among those present.
Organisers described the gathering as both a patriotic tribute to Singapore’s six decades of progress and an opportunity to strengthen bonds between the Dawoodi Bohra community and the wider Singaporean society.
